My boss just walked into my office and presented me with my certificate of completion for the Basic Marketing Essentials ASAE course, for which he had bought a frame from CVS. I'm really surprised at how good that made me feel.
I'm a whole 18 hours closer to being ready to take my CAE exam, but it's not that - maybe it's that he recognizes that I really feel like I'm on the right path, now. Not that I wasn't on a perfectly legitimate path before, several even, but those were jobs - jobs that I was good at (marketing and comms person, then legal assistant for a huge financial services company in Edinburgh; before that teaching marketing to postgraduate art students in London) - but this feels like a CAREER path, for the first time in my life. Wow. Rock on!

My experience was similar to yours--it's nice to see I'm not the only one! I didn't think of myself as having a career in association management (as opposed to being writer or editor who happened to work at an association) until I started studying for the CAE exam. There was something about the process that really got me more involved in the profession.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your preparations for the exam! If there's ever anything I can do to help you while you're studying, just let me know.
thank you!! I'll probably take you up on that!
ReplyDeletecongrats Maddie... excellent news!
