Could everyone please stop saying...

...we're "drinking the Kool-Aid". (Sorry Lindy!)

According to Word Spy,

"This phrase comes from the 1978 "Jonestown massacre" in which members of the Peoples Temple cult committed suicide by drinking cyanide-laced Kool-Aid."

Or here are the Urban Dictionary definitions. The associated bad karma won't help advance our cause!

Sorry for the grumpy post. It's a whole blimmin' week of Mondays so far.

I always thought the Jonestown origin is what provides the irony of the statement. It probably has moved on to cliche status, though, weakening the impact.

How about Sangria instead?

Sorry, I vote for keeping it. I love the phrase. Nothing like getting cult-like status with regards to your members.

For you, Maddie, I'll stop using it...though I was aware of the origins of the phrase and I found it apt, considering how being generative and moving to a more open-source business model feels like a cult suicide pact to so many folks I've met.

...and I do like Kool-aid.

I'll send you some good Karma on Facebook to make up for it.

The Kool-Aid people really hate this, too, because evidently the Jonestown folks didn't use Kool-Aid--it was another brand ...

Maddie, I hope your week has gotten much better!
