From Mitch Joel of the Six Pixels of Separation blog.
"Once you start these conversations, you have to keep them going. You have to be clever. You have to be engaging. Not too many brands have, what I call, the "intestinal fortitude" to deliver on that very real conversation. Brands tend to be great at busting out of the gates - engaging sites and some content to pique the interests of the consumers, but creating content is a marathon and not a sprint. It's the ripples that the conversations start, and not the splash-effect of a campaign."
Awesome.

yes to that quote, these social media tools are what they came out of, the start-up mentality ... most offices, factories, stores, organizations, instituions, are in maintenance mentality, and social media would only rock their boat, and worse, that of the employees, whoo value security and continuity above everything..
so ... how do they day it? horses for courses? something like that
innovation isn't for everybody, and thank god ... they provide the stability for innovators, and artists, explorers, etc. to fly from
many thanks for this - wow, I'm honored :)
and you know, these techniques will creep in, via some sharp gal in marketing, and through the social lives of employees, and they will figure it out, that, hey, maybe we should try this too.
and by then the zeitgeist will be a bit further down the road, and "the future" will have inched its way under the door a bit more, and boing, suddenly things will shift.
what do i mean? well, for starters, can you imagine walmart or verizon actually in conversation with their customers? they won't have a choice! imagine a friendfeed room about with walmart. in much the same way now that comcast has a somebody monitoring twitter for any mention of the company, and trying to fix the problems mentioned there.
good times! and a lot more human, don't you think?
thanks for your time. and you are participating in the process, very cool.
