So in the end, I missed out on third place (and therefore a shot at the place on the board) by 13 votes - 179 to 166, to cool Brit blogger Chris Hambly. But as I told him, if I hadn't been voting for myself, I would have voted for him... : )
As this post explains, the Social Media Club ended up deciding not to do the final run off, so all three finalists, Chris, Aaron Strout, and Deb Micek are on the interim SMC board. Congratulations to all you guys and gals, and I really hope to meet everyone in person one day!
So, as for me, seeing as all of this was out of 34 eminent social media people, and my nearest rival Chris has over 1300 Twitter followers and probably thousands of blog subscribers, I am very happy with how far I got and thank you all for putting in such a valiant effort for me! Plus, I was actually ahead of Chris for a while, which made me feel really great. And I officially claim the best "vote for me" post, since Aaron and Deb - umm - didn't have one, that I can tell. ; )
Further, I have been asked to help with project work at the Social Media Club, which is great and really what this was all about - to help spread the word about the value of social media. I feel honored to be a part of it even in a small way.
Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me - it was BIG FUN. I will use my newfound fame (hehe) to do some great PR for YAP, in particular! So watch this space. You ain't seen nothin' yet.
