So I am super happy, I've got 15 reviews on my "how to get comments on your blog" article with Lindy.
But I can't get to them! When I click on the "15 Reviews" button, I get the most recent five. What's the point of that? Where's the rest?
And, as Chris Condayan points out, it's totally ironic (I would say annoying as hell) that you have to log in in order to review and rate an article on 2.0.
So hmmm.
- Do you think that would make someone want to become a member? No. No-one wants to review something that badly.
- What are the chances a few members read the article and wanted to rate it, but when faced with having to log in, didn't. I would say the chances are high - I do that all the time.
- And what do you think is the point of encouraging reviews if you can't see them all if you choose to? It means readers can't see the full span. It means I as the article writer can't thank those who did, or use their criticism constructively, or add their suggestions to our bibliography.
So THANK YOU, if you are reading this, so much, to everyone who reviewed the article. Your thoughts matter to us!
And I truly hope someone at ASAE will fix the bug that means we can't read the older reviews.
Isn't this exactly what we were saying in the article? That people WANT to comment, but organizations make it unecessarily hard to do that, and the smallest hindrance means no comment. Methinks someone needs to sit up and start paying attention...!
On another topic, Chris and Frank mentioned they thought not using captchas was a bad idea. I will think about this and post a response here later.

How annoying is this!

I couldn't agree more and can't understand what's up with the "Displaying 5 most recent reviews" thing. I can see maybe displaying 5 most recent with a link to the rest of the comments, but to just not be able to access the other 10 reviews--that's crazy.
Hopefully it's just a glitch on the ASAE site--but somehow I have a feeling that it's not.
I agree that it's silly. OK, stupid even. What if the five most recent reviews are all negative? Or positive, for that matter. The whole point of allowing reviews means anyone at any time can see what everyone thinks about the article. Not just the five who just happened to review it most recently.
I agree with everything you said, Mads, except the issue of logging in to write a review. Ratings, sure, anyone should be able to do that. But I think people should have to log in to review an article - not so much because ASAE thinks that will make them join (as you point out, that's very unlikely), but to prevent bogus/incendiary reviews. I'm not going to act like an ass if my review is tied back to my name,
@Elizabeth - aha, but there's a difference between having to fill in your name and having to log in. I will always put my name in. But I can never remember what email address I used for the ASAE site, nor the password, which is one of a standard 4 or 5 that I use for everything. But I get ONE "login incorrect", and I give up. I am sure I'm not the only one.
Thanks for the plug Maddie - and cool Twitter page background, BTW.
While I am an ASAE member (solely because I get it free through my work) I have a lot of gripes with how the organization incorporates vendors into the mix.
It seems not a day goes by that I get an email from ASAE promoting a vendor related product, i.e. "Are your webinars falling flat" was yesterday's one.
The logging in to rate or post comments on an ASAE article is the tip of the iceberg over there.
While I love networking with other Association folks, I'd love to do it with less noise, spam and log in credentials.
I find using Twitter and checking blogs like yours I can accomplish what I need without ASAE.
Just my two cents.
Hey Maddie,
Thanks again for bringing to our attention that the link to the additional reviews wasn't working. While we're troubleshooting that, all reviews are now available on the same page as the article: http://tinyurl.com/64urp2
Couldn't agree more that it makes *no* sense to have a review module that doesn't show all the reviews--they're all important to the conversation--not just the 5 newest. Really was a bug, not intentionally designed to function that way.
Thanks again for bringing it to our attention so that we could resolve it.
Amy
