Check out StatusHQ. Here's what it's all about. Essentially, you can sign up a group of people (eg your office-mates) and on one screen, know where people are and what they are up to. They call this lighter communication (as opposed to heavy email/telephone communication).
It's fairly casual, but if embraced as a cultural shift in the way communication happens within your four walls and between your local offices, I think this kind of tool is exactly what an organization could use to start being agile. There's lots of other IM channels around, of course, but this one seems simple and easy. Which is more important than we might think!
